5-year-old boy died as his mother waited nearly two hours before calling 911 after her husband beat the boy with a belt because he was not listening; couple arrested

Texas – In a tragic incident in Texas, a 5-year-old boy’s life was cut short, leading to the arrest of his mother and stepfather on severe charges linked to his death. The 35-year-old stepfather, identified as T. Robinson, faces a capital murder charge, while the boy’s mother, 24-year-old D. Culvahouse, has been charged with injury to a child causing death by omission. Both were taken into custody as prime suspects in the unsettling case.

On the afternoon of September 27, emergency services rushed to an apartment following a distress call about a child who was not breathing. Paramedics attempted resuscitation efforts on the boy but were unable to revive him. Upon arrival at the hospital, the boy was pronounced dead. The attending officers noted that the 5-year-old boy bore “massive marks” across his abdomen, buttocks, and extremities, an indication of the severe trauma he had endured.

The investigation revealed a harrowing timeline and conflicting accounts from the accused. Culvahouse’s initial statement to the police reported that earlier that morning, Robinson had “disciplined” her son for allegedly “stealing.” She claimed that after the supposed discipline, the boy appeared normal, and along with other children in the home, took a nap around 11 a.m. It wasn’t until approximately 12:30 p.m. that Culvahouse discovered him unresponsive in his room.

According to Culvahouse, after finding her son unresponsive, she alerted Robinson, who was outside in his car. Robinson’s efforts to revive the boy included placing him in a bathtub to warm him up, an act of desperation that proved futile. Culvahouse claimed she called 911 at 1:30 p.m., but dispatch logs revealed that the call was not made until 2:12 p.m.—nearly two hours after she said she found the boy not breathing.

During his interrogation, Robinson provided a narrative that differed subtly from Culvahouse’s. He recounted that he had disciplined the 5-year-old boy earlier that day after discovering the child had taken several items during the night. After running errands and returning to find the dire situation at home, Robinson admitted to placing the boy in lukewarm water and attempting other lifesaving measures before instructing Culvahouse to call emergency services.

The investigation deepened as Robinson eventually conceded to physically punishing the boy with a belt due to frustration over the boy’s behavior, an admission that came only after police challenged inconsistencies in his timeline. Both Culvahouse and Robinson were arrested and are currently being held in jail, with bonds set at $1 million and $5 million, respectively.

This case has highlighted critical issues regarding child welfare and the responsibilities of caregivers. As the community grapples with the tragedy, the focus now turns to the legal proceedings, with both defendants awaiting further court action.
