Arkansas gas prices drop as national averages see slight increase

Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansas is witnessing a continued decrease in gas prices, setting it apart from the national trend where prices have slightly increased. According to a recent survey by GasBuddy.com, which assessed 1,826 stations in Arkansas, the average price of regular unleaded fuel as of Sunday, September 22, was $2.76 per gallon. This rate is 4.8 cents lower than last week and 25.7 cents below the price a month ago.

In contrast, the national average edged up last week by 1.2 cents, reaching $3.16 per gallon. This rise in national gas prices is attributed to the U.S. Federal Reserve’s recent decision to cut interest rates, a move that usually influences economic and consumer activities.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, commented on the trend, suggesting that the price increase might be temporary and anticipates a return to declining prices in the coming days and weeks. “Most of these increases should be temporary with declines returning in the days and weeks ahead,” he stated, indicating a positive outlook for motorists.

De Haan reassures consumers that improvements in refinery operations should also aid in pushing prices lower. However, he notes, “While the future looks good for gas prices to continue trending lower for most in the weeks ahead, oil’s jump may mute the downside potential just a bit—for now.”

This trend offers a slight economic relief for Arkansas residents, contrasting with the overall national pattern. The state continues to benefit from lower fuel costs, which is especially significant in the broader context of economic adjustments following federal policy changes.
