Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansas is receiving new federal support as severe winter weather continues to impact communities across the state, with officials warning that dangerous conditions are still ongoing.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that President Donald J. Trump has approved Arkansas’ request for an Emergency Declaration for Direct Federal Assistance. The declaration is meant to support Arkansas as it responds to severe winter weather that began January 23, 2026, and has not yet ended.
State leaders said the approval will strengthen Arkansas’ ability to respond quickly to emergencies, especially as road conditions, power concerns, and other storm-related problems can develop fast during major winter weather events.

In her announcement, Sanders pointed to the value of federal backing while the state continues deploying resources. She also expressed appreciation to national leaders involved in the decision.
“All of Arkansas is grateful to President Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem for their work to prepare our state for this weekend’s severe winter weather,” said Governor Sanders. “We have already deployed state resources around Arkansas and with this additional federal support, we’ll have greater capacity to assist Arkansans in need.”
According to the governor’s office, Arkansas is specifically receiving Category A and Category B assistance, limited to Direct Federal Assistance, statewide. These categories are typically connected to emergency work and protective measures, giving the state added support as crews continue responding to the winter storm’s impacts.
With the declaration now approved, officials said the state will have greater capacity to help Arkansans who may be facing dangerous travel conditions, storm-related damage, or urgent needs as the severe weather continues.
