Pine Bluff, Arkansas – Two people wanted on charges connected to violent offenses were arrested during separate enforcement operations carried out Tuesday evening by the Pine Bluff Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.
The arrests involved Otis Williams and Malachi Jackson. Both were taken into custody without incident and transported to the county jail, according to police.
The first operation began at about 6:30 p.m. when VCAT Sergeant Dante Nicholson and Officers Wyatt Burchett and Andrew Iverson began surveillance in an effort to locate Williams. He was wanted in connection with Battery in the First Degree and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons under incident number 26-14654.
Surveillance operation leads to first arrest
Police said information gathered during a separate investigation helped officers identify a location that Williams was known to visit. VCAT personnel established surveillance there while waiting for him to arrive.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., Williams arrived at the location in a vehicle. Officers moved in and arrested him without incident.
During the investigation surrounding his arrest, police reported finding a firearm inside the vehicle Williams had been driving. Following the discovery, Williams was transported to the county jail.
He was booked on the outstanding warrant and received an additional charge of Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons in connection with the firearm officers said they found in the vehicle.
Several hours later, two of the same VCAT officers made another arrest while conducting enforcement activity elsewhere in Pine Bluff.
At approximately 9:19 p.m., Officers Burchett and Iverson conducted a traffic stop near West 13th Avenue and South Hickory Street. Police said the vehicle was initially stopped because of an equipment violation. The traffic stop was documented under incident report number 26-26130.
During the stop, officers identified one of the passengers as Malachi Jackson. A check revealed that Jackson had an outstanding Alias Bench Warrant.
According to police, that warrant involved Aggravated Assault and Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree. Jackson was taken into custody at the scene without incident and transported to the county jail.
The Pine Bluff Police Department said the two arrests demonstrate the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team’s continuing effort to find and arrest people wanted in cases involving violent offenses.
VCAT also continues to conduct proactive enforcement operations throughout Pine Bluff as part of the department’s broader efforts to locate wanted individuals and address violent crime in the city.
