Arkansas father charged following tragedy on Little Red River

Two arrested for attempting to smuggle contraband into county jail

Searcy, Arkansas – A young child’s life was tragically cut short near the Little Red River in Searcy, Arkansas.

On October 4, just after 5:00 p.m., the White County Sheriff’s Department was alerted about a missing child in a residence close to the river. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a 6-year-old boy submerged underwater. Immediate attempts to revive the child were made, with officers initiating CPR. The young boy was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but sadly, he was pronounced dead by 7:00 p.m.

Initial investigations reveal that the boy, belonging to a family residing just across the street from the river, had wandered off from their home. Further complicating the tragic event, the child’s father, 37-year-old Maxwell Garner, was located at a nearby house, where he was found to be ‘impaired’.

In light of these circumstances, authorities have charged Maxwell Garner with manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a minor. He is currently in custody at the White County Detention Center.
