Little Rock, Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has named David Peacock to the Arkansas State Board of Education. “After faithfully serving in the United States Marine Corps for over a decade, David quickly became one of our state’s top business leaders – something that gives him the expertise we need to make sure every Arkansas student graduates ready to enroll, enlist, or become employed,” said Governor Sanders.
Peacock’s appointment fills the vacancy left by Dr. Sarah Moore, whose term has concluded. His term on the board will run through June 30, 2032. Governor Sanders thanked Dr. Moore for her commitment and contributions to the state’s educational reform initiative, Arkansas LEARNS, saying, “Because of her hard work and dedication, the future for Arkansas’ students is brighter than ever.”
A Leader Grounded in Service and Results
David Peacock brings with him decades of experience in both the military and corporate sectors. Originally from North Carolina, Peacock graduated as a Distinguished Naval Graduate from The Citadel in 1984, earning a bachelor’s degree in history before serving over ten years in the United States Marine Corps. He later earned a master’s degree in management from Webster University in 1990. After leaving the military, he transitioned into the private sector, building a career at respected companies like Rubbermaid, Textron, JLG Industries, and Kalmar Industries.
Since 2014, Peacock has been with Hytrol Conveyor Company, Inc., a major manufacturer of conveying systems used in industries ranging from processing and manufacturing to warehouse logistics. He became the company’s president in 2015 and has led the business through continued expansion, supported by a global network of over 100 integration partners. His hands-on experience with workforce development and industrial innovation uniquely positions him to support education initiatives that prepare students for careers in modern industries.
A Focus on Readiness, Literacy, and Opportunity
Governor Sanders emphasized that Peacock’s commitment to education goes beyond professional obligation and reflects a deep personal passion. “He’s passionate about workforce readiness, literacy programs, and education freedom, and I know he’ll be an incredible asset on our State Board of Education,” she said.
Peacock echoed those priorities in his public statement, calling the appointment both an honor and a responsibility. “I’m honored and humbled to be appointed by Governor Sanders to serve on the State Board of Education,” he stated. “Education has opened countless doors in my own life, and it’s a privilege to now help create those same opportunities for children across Arkansas. Partnering with parents and communities to prepare our students for the many paths ahead is both essential and inspiring.”
Peacock made clear that his focus will be on expanding opportunity, improving school-to-career pipelines, and engaging families and communities in the education process. “I look forward to working alongside the Governor, my fellow board members, communities and families across the state to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive,” he said.
A Family Rooted in Service
David Peacock’s commitment to public service is reflected in his family life as well. He lives in Jonesboro, Arkansas, with his wife Amye, a retired United States Air Force veteran who served for 22 years. The couple has one daughter who resides in Austin, Texas.
With his strong record of leadership in both military and business settings, Peacock is expected to play a vital role in advancing Arkansas’ education reforms. As the state continues its efforts to modernize schools, promote literacy, and support career readiness, his appointment marks another step toward aligning education with the evolving needs of students and the economy.
