ARTx3 Campus to host free literacy class designed to build reading skills in young children

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – A creative and engaging learning opportunity is set to take place in Pine Bluff as young children and their caregivers are invited to take part in a special literacy program designed to build early reading skills through fun and interaction. Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Class will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, located at 701 S. Main St.

The class is tailored for children ages 3 to 6 and offers a lively environment where learning comes to life through movement, music, and hands-on play. Organizers describe the experience as “a joyful, interactive experience that nurtures early reading skills through movement, music, and play,” highlighting its focus on making literacy both exciting and accessible for young learners.

A playful approach to early learning

This month’s theme centers around Earth Day, adding an extra layer of creativity and connection to the activities. Children are encouraged to wear green, blue, white, and brown, helping to tie the lesson into the natural world and spark imagination.

Throughout the session, children will explore stories, letters, sounds, and language in ways that feel natural and enjoyable. Activities such as shared reading, singing, dancing, and imaginative play are carefully designed to help build vocabulary, strengthen listening skills, and support early literacy development.

Caregivers are not just observers but active participants in the experience. They are encouraged to join in alongside their children, learning simple techniques they can use at home to continue building reading skills in everyday life. This shared approach helps create stronger connections while also reinforcing learning beyond the classroom setting.

The program aims to celebrate curiosity and creativity while giving children the confidence to explore language and storytelling. By blending play with learning, the class helps lay the groundwork for a lifelong love of reading.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required in advance. Those interested must sign up by Tuesday, March 24, either online at artx3.org or by calling 870-536-3375. The program is sponsored by McFarland Eye Care.

For additional details, participants can contact Bethany Gere, theater and programs coordinator, via email or phone. The upcoming class offers a welcoming space where families can learn, connect, and grow together through the power of literacy.
