Authorities searching for leads in Pine Bluff shooting that left one man dead at apartment complex

Pine Bluff’s December crime report reveals mixed results but promising overall decline

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – A deadly shooting is under investigation after officers in Pine Bluff responded to a call about an unresponsive man early Friday morning.

Man Found Shot Dead at Top of Apartment Stairwell

Just after 2:30 a.m. on April 18, 2025, officers with the Pine Bluff Police Department were dispatched to an apartment complex located at 2600 W. 30th Street. They were called to assist EASi ambulance service, which had responded to reports of an unresponsive male.

When police arrived, they found the man lying at the top of a staircase in the center of the apartment building. Emergency personnel with EASi discovered what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds on the man’s body. A deputy with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later pronounced him dead at the scene.

The victim has since been identified as 26-year-old Asa Stewart.

Investigators say it is still early in the case. The circumstances surrounding Stewart’s death remain unclear, and as of the time of the press release, there is no information available about a possible suspect.
