Father became enraged when a 12-year-old child lied to him about a minor household issue, so he took out his belt and hit the boy 51 times, then started choking him before threatening to break his jaw; charged

Florida – In a disturbing incident in Florida, a couple is now facing severe legal consequences after a 42-year-old father, identified as Lance R., assaulted a 12-year-old child over a minor household issue. The episode, marked by extreme violence and neglect, has shaken the local community and highlights the urgent issues surrounding child welfare and domestic abuse.

The case centers around Lance and his 35-year-old wife, identified as Kimberly R., who were both arrested following the abuse that reportedly took place on December 7 in their home. Lance is charged with aggravated child abuse and battery by strangulation. His wife faces charges for failing to report the abuse. According to the sheriff’s office, the trigger for the abuse was a displaced couch cushion, which Lance allegedly used to justify nearly thirty minutes of physical and verbal assault on the child.

The abuse was reportedly so severe that Lance, enraged because the child lied to him, took a belt and hit the boy 51 times, and then resorted to choking and verbally assaulting the boy with severe obscenities and threats. The verbal abuse included extremely derogatory names and threats to break the child’s jaw, further stating the child would not be allowed to sleep in a bed.

The incident was partly captured by home surveillance, which provided crucial evidence for the police. While the video did not visually show the belt strikes, they were audible, and the child’s injuries were consistent with being struck multiple times. The child also reported that Lance hits other younger children in the household, adding to the severity of the accusations. Police began their investigation on December 11 after being alerted by other family members who had seen the video. The subsequent medical examination of the boy led a doctor to conclude that the so-called ‘discipline’ the child endured was severe, involving physical attacks and sleep deprivation.

During police interviews, Lance allegedly admitted to the abuse. Kimberly, when questioned, acknowledged having seen the video and told detectives that she had stopped counting the belt strikes after reaching 15. Her reaction when informed of the total was to simply shake her head, indicating some awareness of the gravity of the abuse. Both individuals were arrested and taken to jail. Lance is being held without bond, reflecting the seriousness of his charges, while Kimberly’s bond was set at $5,000.

This case is a grim reminder of the challenges law enforcement and communities face in detecting and preventing domestic abuse. It underscores the importance of vigilance within the community and the responsibility of family members to report suspected abuse. As the legal process unfolds, the focus is on ensuring justice for the victim and safeguarding other children who might be at risk. This harrowing episode highlights the critical need for effective intervention and support systems to protect vulnerable children and prevent such severe abuse from occurring in the future. It also calls into question the mechanisms of monitoring and intervention that could prevent prolonged suffering of children in similar situations.
