Governor Sanders orders flags at half-staff on October 7 in memory of lives lost in the Israel attack

New statewide initiative offers struggling families support job access and long term stability

Little Rock, Arkansas – In remembrance of the tragic attack on Israel, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has issued an order to lower the United States flag and the Arkansas state flag to half-staff on October 7, 2024. This solemn gesture marks the one-year anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, when Hamas terrorists invaded Israel, killing 1,200 Israelis and taking 230 hostages, including children.

Commemorating a Day of Tragedy

Governor Sanders’ proclamation recognizes that the day was the deadliest for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. In the year following the attack, Israel has fought to bring the hostages back and to defeat the terrorists responsible for the assault. The Governor also noted that the conflict remains ongoing, with recent escalations such as Iran launching a missile attack against Israel.

Rising Antisemitism and Global Tensions

Governor Sanders’ proclamation also addresses a concerning rise in antisemitism and pro-Hamas demonstrations in the United States. The Governor emphasized that these protests, which challenge Israel’s right to self-defense, are particularly disturbing in the current climate of conflict between “good and evil.” She declared Arkansas’s unwavering support for Israel in its efforts to combat terrorism and bring home the hostages.

A State Stands with Israel

The order concludes with Governor Sanders asserting, “Arkansas stands with Israel, prays for Israel, and supports Israel as they fight to defeat the terrorists and bring the hostages home.” As an expression of solidarity and remembrance, the flags across Arkansas will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on October 7, 2024. This observance is intended to honor and mourn the lives lost in the attack on Israel one year ago.
