Little Rock receives a $2 million grant from the US Department of Transportation for a deck park over I-30

Little Rock, Arkansas – The city of Little Rock received a $2 million planning grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to start the design process for a potential deck park over Interstate 30.

The funding is a part of the pilot program for reuniting villages that were split apart by the building of the interstate system.

I-30 passing through downtown Little Rock is one of those communities, according to representatives of the Little Rock Regional Chamber.

Local businesses and nonprofits collaborated to develop the grant proposal, enlisting the help of groups and community representatives.

In order to get the deck park erected over the highway between 6th and 9th Street, Little Rock’s corporate sector reportedly worked behind the scenes on this project.

According to city officials, the USDOT will give construction grants each year for the following four years to the construction projects.

The planning money, according to officials, should be used to assist recipients in future building grant applications.
