Pine Bluff, Arkansas – A deadly shooting in Pine Bluff has left a young woman dead and another person behind bars, as detectives continue working to piece together what happened inside a west-side home Monday afternoon.
According to the Pine Bluff Police Department, officers were called to a residence at 2405 W. 24th Street on January 26, 2026, just after 2:00 p.m., after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Jurnea Stanley unresponsive inside the home.
Police said Stanley had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, marking another tragic loss of life in the city.
Suspect detained and charged as investigation begins
Also at the residence when officers arrived was 25-year-old Michael Johnson. Police said Johnson was taken from the scene and transported to the detective office for questioning as investigators worked to determine what led up to the fatal shooting.
After being interviewed by detectives, Johnson was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of second-degree murder. Authorities have not released details about the relationship between Johnson and Stanley, nor have they disclosed what may have sparked the violence.
Police emphasized that the case is still in its early stages of investigation, and much of the evidence is still being reviewed. Because of that, officials said there is no further information available at this time.
Investigators are now focused on reconstructing the moments leading up to the shooting, collecting physical evidence, and speaking with anyone who may have information that could help clarify what occurred.
