Man “thanked” his ex-wife’s husband, who was “just trying to be a nice guy and help a homeless person out” and allowed him to move in with them temporarily, by stabbing him in the stomach; charged

Florida – In a shocking incident in Florida, a 72-year-old man, identified as G. Grant, was arrested for attempting to murder his ex-wife’s new husband, identified as A. Bingham. The attack, which involved a stabbing in the stomach, occurred in a home where the victim and his wife had been providing shelter to Grant, who was reportedly homeless before the incident.

The incident unfolded in the couple’s home on Thanksgiving morning. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 11:15 a.m. regarding a stabbing incident. Upon arrival and after a preliminary investigation, it was determined that an argument between Grant and Bingham had escalated to physical violence, culminating in the stabbing. The victim suffered a stab wound to the upper abdomen. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening, and he was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Bingham later recounted the events to local media, describing how a verbal altercation turned violent when he encouraged Grant to leave his room and interact more openly.

Bingham explained that Grant reacted negatively, telling him to “flake off” and expressing a desire not to associate with him. Unbeknownst to Bingham, Grant had a knife at the time. “I felt it [stab me] in my side,” Bingham recounted. “Then he tried to stab me again, but he cut my thumb trying to defend myself. I had his arms … so I took my right foot and tripped him. And that’s how I got away and called 911.” After the attack, Grant reportedly locked himself in a room, from which he was later apprehended by law enforcement officials. Bingham expressed his dismay over the incident, noting his intentions were purely to help Grant during a difficult period. “I’m just trying to be a nice guy and help a homeless person out — and that’s the appreciation I get,” he added.

Grant was arrested and booked into the county’s jail shortly after the incident. Charged with one count of attempted homicide, he is currently being held without bond. His court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on December 20. The sheriff’s office has indicated that the incident is not being classified as domestic violence despite the familial connections due to the nature of the relationships involved.

This case has highlighted the potential dangers of unresolved personal grievances, especially when combined with the stressors of providing shelter to individuals in distress. The victim’s family is now left to grapple with the repercussions of a Thanksgiving that was marred by violence instead of celebration. As the legal proceedings continue, the community is reminded of the importance of safety and the complexities involved in offering help to those in need, particularly when underlying issues such as homelessness are present. The incident also raises questions about the adequacy of support structures for the elderly who find themselves without shelter or adequate care.
