Man traveled over 1,000 miles only to break into his ex’s home where his 3 children lived before fatally shooting his ex and her new boyfriend; arrested

Maryland – In a harrowing incident in Maryland, two individuals were tragically murdered in their home, leading to the arrest of a Florida man for the crimes. The 33-year-old suspect, identified as D. Turner, faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and home invasion.

The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were dispatched to the scene of the shooting on the morning of August 25, around 7 a.m., at a residence. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the bodies of a 33-year-old woman, identified as C. Baker, and a 34-year-old man, identified as S. Lange. Both victims were found deceased in an upstairs bedroom, each having succumbed to gunshot wounds.

Adding to the tragedy, four children—all under the age of 13—were present in the home during the incident. According to authorities, the children took shelter in a closet upon hearing the gunshots. After the gunfire ceased, one child bravely left the closet, discovered the grim scene, and called for help. Fortunately, none of the children were physically harmed during the ordeal.

Baker was the mother of all four children and had previously been in a relationship with the suspect, Turner. They shared three children together. At the time of the murders, Baker was in a relationship with Lange, who was also living in the home and was the father of one of the children.

The investigation revealed that Turner had traveled over 1,000 miles from Florida to Maryland with the intent to confront Baker and Lange. Sheriff C. Jenkins described the attack as “a heinous, targeted double murder—a crime of rage and anger.” Authorities detailed that Turner broke into the house, went to the couple’s bedroom and fired over 40 shots during the attack.

“This was a heinous, targeted double murder — a crime of rage and anger,” Sheriff Jenkins stated, emphasizing the brutality and premeditated nature of the attack.

Following a month-long investigation that spanned several states, Turner was apprehended by a combined effort of the several agencies. He was arrested on a Saturday evening around 6:20 p.m. and is currently being held in jail in Florida, pending extradition to Maryland.

Turner faces severe legal consequences, including charges of first-degree murder, home invasion, and two counts of use of a firearm in a crime of violence or felony. These charges reflect the grave nature of his alleged actions and the significant impact on the lives of the surviving family members.

“Sheriff’s Office detectives have worked tirelessly, seven days a week, for over a month with the help of multiple law enforcement agencies to identify the person responsible for these shocking murders. This investigation has been a priority of this office since the morning of the shootings.  In anxiously waiting for closure and the arrest of the person responsible, the public has been extremely patient and can now be completely confident that this was a targeted domestic-related murder,” Sheriff Jenkins added.

The community and the families involved are left to mourn the loss and cope with the traumatic aftermath of such a violent act, while the legal process continues to unfold, seeking justice for the victims and their loved ones.
