Pine Bluff, Arkansas – An officer with the Pine Bluff Police Department encountered a dangerous situation while working part-time at Saracen Casino on January 17, 2026, after a reported disturbance in the casino’s parking area involving a black Ford Bronco.
Victim Found Bleeding After Claiming Nothing Was Wrong
The officer initially approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who was later identified as Richard Russell. At first, Russell downplayed the situation, reportedly telling the officer “everything was fine.” However, the officer soon noticed that Russell appeared to be injured.
Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that Russell had been stabbed. When asked what had happened, he identified Hershell Osgood, a 40-year-old male, as the person responsible for the stabbing. Osgood, according to Russell, was still inside the vehicle.
Other witnesses at the scene reported that Osgood had been acting aggressively and was armed with a knife. They stated that he moved toward them in a threatening way, causing them to fear for their safety.
Charges Filed Following On-Scene Arrest
Officers quickly detained Osgood at the scene without further incident. Meanwhile, Russell was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for his injuries.
Following the investigation, authorities formally charged Hershell Osgood with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Battery in the First Degree.
The incident remains under investigation, but authorities credited the officer’s quick response and eyewitness accounts for preventing further harm in what could have escalated into a more violent altercation.
