Little Rock, Arkansas – Walmart has unveiled Caroline’s Carts at all of its Arkansas stores in a major step toward enhancing inclusivity. These specifically designed shopping carts provide a more accessible and controllable shopping experience to caregivers of children and adults with disabilities.
Comprising a multimillion-dollar investment to guarantee that every guest’s needs are met, this project reflects Walmart’s larger dedication to accessibility.
“Helping our customers save money and live better is more than our mission – it’s our driving force,” explained Cedric Clark, Walmart’s Executive Vice President of Store Operations. He further highlighted that the introduction of Caroline’s Carts is a response to the needs of parents and caregivers who require support while shopping.
The carts are uniquely made to assist a varied set of people, including those with impairments, the elderly, toddlers, and those with temporary injuries. The carts are flexible enough to meet a range of purposes given their 35 to 250 pound seating capacity. According to Walmart’s strategy, every Supercenter will acquire two carts and each Neighborhood Market would get at least one by early 2025 from about 8,000 Caroline’s Carts distributed nationally.
This program tracks the effective introduction of sensory-friendly hours at Walmart stores all throughout Puerto Rico and the United States. By dimming lights, silencing in-store radios, and freezing TV monitors, the retailers create a quieter shopping atmosphere between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. daily. Initially scheduled for the back-to-school season, positive consumer comments have made this program a year-round standard.
The launch of Caroline’s Carts and the expansion of sensory-friendly hours highlight Walmart’s continuous initiatives to establish an accessible shopping environment for every consumer, regardless of their physical capacity or needs.

Walmart has offered downloadable videos and an interview with Angie Zumwalt, a Walmart customer who uses the cart for her 10-year-old son, Brooks, for individuals who would want to see the results of these carts. These tools provide a closer view of how Caroline’s Carts are improving the shopping experience for Arkansas families and caregivers.
