Woman told a young girl “not to worry” about her lip after she grabbed her by the collar and hit her repeatedly in the face only because the girl was doing her homework wrong; arrested

Florida – In a shocking incident in Florida, a 35-year-old woman, identified as M. Gissome, has been charged with felony child abuse after attacking a young girl because she made mistakes on her homework. The incident, which took place on September 10, has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of the child involved. According to reports, Gissome became enraged when the girl, whose age was not specified, made errors while completing her homework.

The specifics of the incident are particularly alarming. Gissome is said to have grabbed the child by the collar before repeatedly punching her in the face. This assault resulted in significant injuries for the victim, including a busted blood vessel in her left eye and an injured lower lip. The arrest affidavit detailing the incident describes a scene where Gissome, upon becoming upset by the homework answers, escalated to physical violence shockingly quickly. The relationship between Gissome and the child has not been disclosed, but the girl referred to her as “Miss,” and Gissome works in occupational care, according to reports.

The investigation revealed that the victim told investigators this was not the first instance of abuse. The girl stated that Gissome hits her “a lot.” On September 10, the victim and her siblings were doing homework in Gissome’s bedroom—a common after-school routine. However, the environment turned unsafe and abusive when Gissome reacted violently to what should have been a normal learning moment.

The severity of the abuse became even more evident when, after initially striking the child in the face, and delivering a series of punches with a closed fist, Gissome warned the girl, saying, “not to worry about your lip because your nose will be next,” and then continued the assault by threatening further harm and striking the girl in the chest.

Following the assault, the victim reported the abuse to authorities, leading to an investigation by a detective sergeant from the sheriff’s office and an investigator from the Department of Children and Families. The investigators documented the victim’s injuries and took statements detailing the physical abuse she endured.

Gissome was arrested on a felony charge of child abuse and booked into the county’s jail at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. She was released the following day after posting a $2,500 bond. According to court records, Gissome had previously been involved in a domestic violence case in March 2023, though that case has since been closed.

The affidavit did not specify the exact relationship between Gissome and the victim, leaving questions about the nature of their connection and the circumstances that led to such severe abuse. The Palm sheriff’s office continues to investigate the case, and Gissome now faces serious legal consequences for her actions.

As the legal process unfolds, authorities are expected to closely examine the evidence and consider the impact of this violent behavior on the child’s safety and well-being. Gissome’s actions, as described in the affidavit, paint a troubling picture of repeated physical abuse that will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the victim.
