Prescott, Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has declared Nevada County, Arkansas, a disaster area in response to the severe storms and flooding that impacted the region on July 12, 2023, earlier this week. This declaration, acknowledges the significant danger, hardship, and suffering inflicted by the natural events and activates state resources to aid in recovery efforts.
The severe weather events on that day brought not only extensive rainfall but also flooding that caused considerable damage across various parts of Arkansas. The adverse effects of these storms necessitated executive action to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities, particularly in Nevada County, where the impact was among the most severe.
Under the authority vested in her by the state constitution and specific statutes related to emergency management, Governor Sanders has authorized the allocation of $38,979.69 from the Governor’s Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. These funds are designated for Public Assistance disaster relief efforts in Nevada County and will be managed at the discretion of the Director of the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management.
The allocated funds will cover both the program and administrative costs associated with the disaster relief efforts, ensuring that the necessary resources are available to address the immediate needs of the impacted area.
