Hot Springs, Arkansas – A Hot Springs man has been sentenced to 123 months in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm possession in connection with a criminal investigation by local law enforcement. The sentencing took place in the United States District Court in Hot Springs, where Chief Judge Susan O. Hickey presided over the hearings.
Arrest and Evidence Seized
According to court records, on March 7, 2023, officers from the Hot Springs Police Department’s Special Investigation Division spotted Darryl Lavell Williams, 30, walking along East Grand Avenue while carrying a black backpack. Officers recognized Williams and were aware of an active warrant issued by the Arkansas Parole Board for his arrest.
As officers approached, Williams attempted to evade law enforcement and threw the backpack off a bridge in an effort to dispose of it. However, officers successfully detained him and recovered the bag. Upon searching the contents, police discovered a loaded Jimenez 9mm handgun and 47 grams of methamphetamine, confirming that Williams was actively engaged in drug trafficking.
Guilty Plea and Sentencing
Williams pleaded guilty on June 5, 2024, to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. These charges carried serious penalties due to the combination of illegal drug distribution and firearm possession.
On sentencing day, U.S. Attorney David Clay Fowlkes announced that Williams had been sentenced to 123 months in federal prison.
The Hot Springs Police Department’s Special Investigation Division played a key role in apprehending Williams and securing the evidence needed for prosecution. The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Trent Daniels, who led the legal proceedings for the United States government.
