Jefferson County’s burn ban still active several days after initial issue

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management reminds residents that the burn ban issued on August 26, 2024, remains in effect due to ongoing dry conditions and elevated fire risks. This prohibition encompasses all outdoor burning within the county, including Pine Bluff, White Hall, Humphrey, Sherrill, Altheimer, Wabbaseka, and Redfield, and will continue until further notice.

Ongoing Fire Safety Measures

Despite several days passing since the initial announcement, the environmental conditions have not improved sufficiently to lift the restrictions. The lack of significant precipitation has maintained the dry conditions across the county, maintaining a high risk for wildfires. The burn ban, therefore, remains a crucial measure to prevent potential fires from starting and spreading.

Residents are reminded that all forms of outdoor burning are strictly prohibited. This includes the burning of debris, such as leaves and brush, and any open-flame activities. The enforcement of this ban is crucial for protecting both the community and surrounding natural areas.

Legal Implications and Enforcement

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with local emergency services, continues to monitor compliance strictly. Violations of the burn ban carry penalties, reinforcing the seriousness with which these measures are being enforced to ensure public safety.

Community Cooperation Needed

County Judge Gerald Robinson and local authorities are calling for the community’s continued cooperation and adherence to the ban. Residents are urged to report any violations or suspicious activities related to outdoor burning to the authorities immediately. This collective vigilance is vital for preventing any fire-related incidents during this period of heightened risk.
