Man had his son on the back trying to fight him off and help his mother break free before he stabbed his wife to death with a large knife; pleads guilty

New York – In a disturbing case of domestic violence in New York, a 44-year-old man, identified as R. Murawski, faces up to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his 38-year-old wife, identified as Wioleta. The charges stem from a brutal incident of domestic violence that occurred on January 3, 2024, at the couple’s home. Murawski is also accused of injuring their 15-year-old son, who tried to protect his mother during the attack.

“This is a tragic case of domestic violence that ended with the senseless death of Wioleta and horrific trauma to their child,” said District Attorney R. Tierney. “This defendant will now have to pay for his actions in prison.” Around 8:30 p.m. on the night of the incident, police received a frantic 911 call from the couple’s teenage son. “The teen, distraught during the duration of the call, begged the police for help as he desperately tried to save his mother’s life,” the District Attorney’s office reported.

The son told authorities that he had just returned home from a friend’s house when he heard his mother screaming for help in the backyard. Rushing to her aid, he discovered his father stabbing her repeatedly with a large knife. Acting bravely, the boy jumped on his father in an attempt to stop the assault. His intervention allowed his mother to break free and stumble across the street, where she eventually collapsed with her son by her side.

First responders arrived promptly and transported Wioleta to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, she did not survive the attack. The horrifying incident was reportedly captured on the family’s home surveillance system, providing crucial evidence for the case. Meanwhile, Murawski fled the scene in a black pickup truck. Police units pursued him for more than seven miles with lights and sirens blaring. The chase ended when Murawski lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the side of a building. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Murawski pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Tuesday. He is scheduled to return to court on October 17 for sentencing. Prosecutors have indicated that he faces 22 years to life in prison for his crimes. “Domestic violence is never the answer,” District Attorney Tierney emphasized, urging those affected by abuse to seek help from law enforcement. The case has brought attention to the devastating impact of domestic violence on families and the importance of intervention.

The couple’s son, who witnessed the traumatic event and tried to save his mother, is now left to cope with the loss and aftermath of his father’s actions. Support services are being made available to him to help navigate this difficult time. This tragic incident underscores the severe consequences of domestic violence and the critical need for support and resources for victims. Authorities continue to encourage anyone experiencing abuse to reach out for assistance.
