Multi-convicted felon from Little Rock receives 215-month prison term for drug and firearm offenses

Multi-convicted felon sentenced to 200 months in prison for firearm-related offenses

Little Rock, Arkansas – Christopher Monroe, a 44-year-old resident of Little Rock, has been sentenced to 215 months in federal prison for crimes involving the possession and distribution of drugs and firearms. The sentence was announced by Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, following a judgment issued by United States District Judge Brian S. Miller.

Monroe’s charges included possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine, illegal possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. His criminal history and the dangerous nature of the offenses played a significant role in the lengthy sentence.

A History of Criminal Activity and Dangerous Pursuits

The case against Monroe began with a six-count indictment issued on June 6, 2023. The indictment detailed several severe charges, including possession with intent to distribute various controlled substances such as fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. The charges also included being a felon in possession of a firearm and using that firearm in connection with drug trafficking.

Monroe entered a guilty plea

on April 12, 2024, admitting guilt to fentanyl and methamphetamine possession, as well as illegal firearm possession and using the firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. Judge Miller sentenced him to 155 months in prison for the drug and firearm possession crimes, which will run concurrently. However, Monroe also received an additional 60 months, to be served consecutively, for possessing a firearm in relation to his drug-trafficking activities. In total, Monroe will serve 215 months—more than 17.5 years—in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

Arrest Following High-Speed Chase

Monroe’s arrest came after a high-speed chase that endangered many lives. On May 20, 2023, Arkansas State Troopers identified Monroe driving a GMC Sierra Denali, a vehicle previously used to evade police in recent encounters. Troopers confirmed Monroe had outstanding warrants from Sherwood and attempted to stop the vehicle on Highway 167. Monroe ignored the officers, collided with patrol cars, and sped away at more than 100 miles per hour, creating a dangerous pursuit through Sherwood and Little Rock.

The chase ended when officers immobilized the vehicle on Roosevelt Road. Upon searching the truck, law enforcement found 309 grams of methamphetamine, 109 grams of fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, and oxycodone. They also recovered a loaded Taurus Judge .45/.410 caliber firearm, stored in a safe along with baggies, scales, and cash.

Repeat Offender and Severe Criminal Record

Monroe’s extensive criminal record factored heavily into the sentence. His past convictions include domestic battery, possession of marijuana, theft, and prior charges for distributing methamphetamine and cocaine. His status as a felon in possession of a firearm further compounded the severity of his offenses.

Cooperation Between Law Enforcement Agencies

The investigation that led to Monroe’s arrest was a collaborative effort involving the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Arkansas State Police, and the Sherwood Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Bart Dickinson prosecuted the case, ensuring Monroe’s actions were met with the full force of the law.
