Pine Bluff, Arkansas – As Pine Bluff braces for a potentially dangerous weather event, local officials are urging all residents to stay alert, stay informed, and stay indoors. With heavy rainfall, high winds, flooding, and possible tornadoes forecasted, Acting Police Chief Shirley Warrior and Mayor Vivian Flowers have issued strong public safety messages aimed at protecting lives and property during this rare level 5 weather event.
The Pine Bluff Police Department has released several critical safety guidelines for motorists and pedestrians. Acting Chief Warrior emphasized the importance of adjusting your behavior to the conditions.
- Slow down – wet roads can be slippery. Reducing your speed gives you more control and allows for safer stopping distances.
-
Turn on your headlights to increase visibility in heavy rain.
-
Avoid flooded roads entirely. If you can’t determine how deep the water is, don’t risk it—turn around, don’t drown.
-
Keep a safe distance from the car in front to allow for longer braking.
-
Pull over to a safe area away from trees and power lines if conditions become too severe.
-
If caught outside, lay flat in a ditch or low-lying area, covering your head with your arms, a coat, or cushion if available.
-
Avoid taking shelter under bridges or overpasses, which are dangerous in strong winds.
-
Bring pets indoors and seek shelter in a secure building away from windows.

With first responders from the Pine Bluff Fire Department and other local agencies already mobilized, residents are urged to shelter in place, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep communication devices charged and nearby.
The city urges everyone to monitor trusted weather updates and remain calm but cautious as the storm passes through.
